Cisco SPA – Configuring Your Phone

Manually register a Cisco SPA desk phone with 2talk using SIP settings and the phone web interface.

Use this guide to manually register a Cisco SPA desk phone with 2talk. These steps apply to common Cisco SPA models, although the number of extension tabs and menu labels may vary by device.

Before you start

  • Connect the phone to power and to your network.
  • Have the 2talk phone number and SIP password ready.
  • Use a computer on the same local network as the phone.

Open the Cisco SPA web interface

  1. On the phone, press the Settings button.
  2. Go to Network, then note the Current IP.
  3. Open a browser and enter the phone address followed by /admin/advanced. For example: http://192.168.1.168/admin/advanced.

Configure an extension tab

Main SIP settings are configured in the Ext tabs. Use Ext 1 for the first 2talk line.

General

  • Line Enable: yes

Proxy and registration

  • Proxy: plus.2talk.com
  • Outbound Proxy: plus.2talk.com
  • Register: yes
  • Reg Expires: 120

Subscriber information

  • Display Name: The user name, location, or phone number
  • Auth ID: Full 2talk phone number, such as 13106351796
  • User ID: Full 2talk phone number
  • Password: The SIP password for the number

Disable unused extension tabs

If you are not registering additional lines, open the unused Ext tabs and set Line Enable to no.

Set time synchronization

  1. Open the phone web interface in advanced mode, such as http://192.168.1.162/admin/advanced.
  2. Go to System, then Optional Network Configuration.
  3. Set Primary NTP Server to time.google.com.

Set the time zone

  1. Go to Regional, then Miscellaneous.
  2. Select the correct U.S. time zone for the phone location.
  3. Enable daylight saving time if it applies in that location.

Save and reboot

  1. Click Submit All Changes.
  2. Wait for the phone to reboot and apply the settings.
  3. Confirm that the line registers successfully.
