Polycom Feature Configuration

Configure Polycom phone features such as extension dialing, BLF, presence, buddies, and firmware updates.

Polycom phones can be configured for features such as extension dialing, BLF, presence, buddies, and firmware updates. Some settings are included automatically when the phone is provisioned through 2talk.

Extension dialing

Extension dialing lets users call coworkers with a short internal extension instead of the full phone number.

Enable BLF and presence

  1. Find the phone’s IP address from Settings > Status > Network > TCP/IP.
  2. Enter the IP address in a browser on the same network.
  3. Sign in to the phone web interface.
  4. Go to Preferences > Presence.
  5. Enable presence.

Add a buddy

  1. On the phone, go to Settings > Directories > Contact Directory.
  2. Add a contact.
  3. Enter first name, last name, and full phone number.
  4. Set Protocol to SIP if required by the model.
  5. Enable Watch Buddy.
  6. Save the contact.
  7. Add the contact to favorites if you want it on the home screen.

Firmware upgrades

Older Polycom phones may need firmware upgrades before they support modern web-based provisioning.

  1. Open the phone web interface.
  2. Sign in with the admin password. The default is often 456.
  3. Go to Utilities > Software Upgrade.
  4. Click Check for Updates.
  5. Select the latest supported version.
  6. Click Install.
